Skateboarding or cycling drunk: Is a OUI possible?

There are many reasons why you shouldn't head out on your bicycle or skateboard while your intoxicated, but you'll be glad to know that an OUI isn't one of them. While riding a bike or skateboard is still technically riding a vehicle, it's legal in Wisconsin to ride a bike or skateboard while intoxicated.

There are good reasons not to do so, though, like the fact that you put yourself at risk of being involved in an accident. Drunk driving-related accidents don't only involve motor vehicles; it's perfectly possible to get into a crash if you're the one who is intoxicated on your bike or skateboard, too.

For example, if you're on your skateboard and are intoxicated, you may not have good balance. You could fall several times, and if you fall in the path of a vehicle, there's a potential for you to get into a serious accident. The same is true on a bicycle.

It's also possible for you to get into an accident with someone on a sidewalk, in a parking lot or in another area. Bicycles and skateboards fit on sidewalks, but you become a hazard to those who are walking there safely. If you plan to ride a skateboard or bicycle, remember to ride where it's legal and to try to avoid doing so when intoxicated.

If you do cause an accident, you could face charges for being intoxicated in public and for causing harm to others. In any case, it's a good idea to defend yourself as soon as you face allegations or are arrested.
